Dr. Nabil Watfa’s biography

Academically, Dr. Nabil T. Watfa holds a B.Sc. in Environmental Heath (AUB, Beirut), M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Occupational Hygiene (London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, London University). He is professionally certified in Biological Safety Cabinets-Class II (Harvard University), Hazardous Chemical Safety (J.T. Baker, New Jersey), Gas Chromatography (Varian Co., New Jersey), and as a Registered Sanitarian (National Environmental Health Association, Colorado).

Dr. Watfa has more than 50 years of international experience in the fields of occupational safety and health (OSH), public health, combating the worst forms of child labor, and HIV/AIDS. As the International Labour Office Specialist and Regional Advisor on OSH, and Multidisciplinary Team Director for 23 years, he covered numerous countries in the Middle East, Asia & the Pacific, Africa and Europe. He also held a number of other posts as Rutgers University Hygienist and Health Supervisor, NJ; Senior Research Scientist at The John Hopkins University, MD; Research Fellow in Occupational Hygiene at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, London University; and Lecturer in Occupational Hygiene at the American University of Beirut. He also served as Chief of Party on the USAID funded project for the development of the Technical Health Institute in Damascus, Syria, in 1980-83. The project was implemented by Medical Service Consultants Inc. (MSCI), DC., which successfully upgraded the technical, training and academic capabilities of the Institute in public health, pharmacy, physiotherapy, medical laboratories and radiology. Years later he continued his association with MSCI and Seraphim Global flagship in Lebanon as Director for Health and Humanitarian Assistance Programs.  

During the course of his experience, Dr. Watfa was the author, co-author and editor of close to 30 publications and manuscripts in the field of occupational safety and health, chemical safety, public health, elimination of child labor and allied health sciences.

Dr. Watfa remains committed to promoting health and humanitarian services to refugees and the disadvantaged populations.
